Watermelon Vodkatini – hot in the city

Sitting at a trendy bar, with your girlfriends, the only way to end a mad work day or welcome in the weekend- as popularised by Carie Bradshaw and the girls of Sex in the City. A cosmopolitan? Which hip bar or restaurant the world over, does not serve these ruby beauts? Check out the cocktail list the next time you’re out at a hot and happening watering hole. They are bound to be on it.

It appears, summer has decided to bare some skin and peek over the mountain in Cape Town – after an infuriating game of now you see me, now you don’t.

What better way to celebrate summer (and the upcoming weekend- rumoured to be smokin’ hot) than with ice cold in-season watermelon and chilled vodka cocktail – a watermelon vodkatini. Add a handful of raspberries and you’re rosy. There’s no sieving, shaking, and barely any stirring here, unless you insist.

Take these Watermelon Vodkatini’s poolside and activate laid back Cape Town spirit..aaaah, that’s more like it.

*note this is not a variation on a traditional martini, just a play on the words*

Ingredients

serves: depends on you

3 parts cold watermelon, blended

1 part vodka, chilled

handful raspberries, pureed (optional)

ice, crushed

Method

Add crushed ice to a martini glass (any short glass will do)

Add watermelon and raspberry puree – give it a quick stir.

Pour vodka over and give another stir.

Salut!

This definitely sounds summery, and tasty! There’s really nothing tastier on a hot day than cold watermelon. Enjoy the season!

Is it just a coincidence Ishay or do I always stumble upon your blog when hungry or dying of thirst? Either way I always find what I am looking for. I am not a lover of Watermelon at all but made Watermelon and blackcurrant martinis earlier this year and am an addict. Sláinte!

Hi Mona. I recall your adventures with the watermelon, for the P2P assignment and the lovely pics with the kids. I was so envious, as we were in winter with no sign of the melon. Your martini sounds yum!

Hi, I will have 2 of those please. Its hot out here in PE, and it will go down very well around my pool area. Love the simplicity of the recipe. More fun and cooking time to be had with guests.
