Donkey’s Back tweet-up at el Burro in aid of help2read
Last night, a group of 51 Twits and their plus ones, braved the Cape Town rain to attend a celebration of the return of el Burro’s Donkey Chido (read about what could possibly have happened to donkey here and here). Nic, the owner, very generously decided to donate all profits of the night to help2read, a local NPO assisting disadvantaged children in primary schools with literacy.
We raised enough money to put one child through help2read’s programme for one year.
Thank you to everyone who braved the cold and wet weather, on a night when bed and the duvet seemed a much more inviting place to be.
Food and drink
We were served an array of inviting Mexican canapes from stuffed chilli poppers, chilli pork tacos, creamy chicken tacos, calamari and a warming bean soup to churros and mini chocolate tarts. I kept hearing comments about how delicious the canapes were and the fact that they kept coming out! Someone said they’d never been to a party where the food served was as generous as last night.
Le Muerte sponsored a tempting tequila that was served in el Burro’s famous frozen margarita- one of the very best in town, and soon things were heating up and we all forgot the cold and miserable weather outside. I suspect the smokey chilli poppers and spicy tacos had something to do with that too.
Sponsors
A very kind thank you to the generous sponsors of the night (most people walked away with an amazing prize).
