a little more to Mauritius

Mauritius with iAmbassador – #MyMauritius Campaign

I’m thrilled to share that I was invited by the iAmbassador team to join their group of digital ambassadors on an upcoming trip to Mauritius from 24 September – 29 September. So, along with founder Keith of Velvet Escape,  Emiel of Act of Traveling, Melvin of Travel Dudes and Nellie of Wild Junket, and a few other hot-shot bloggers (I’m star-struck, to be honest) I’ll be venturing to the island in the hope that it is much more than just the preferred South African honeymoon dream destination. Though as a honeymoon destination, I know it is well suited.

We are a group of 14 bloggers with differing sepcialities, each on our own itinerary, more or less. My friend Merushka of MzansiGirl is part of the group too, and she will cover the adventure/leisure side of things.

I will be looking at things from a food and culture angle (no surprises), and during my time with the tourism board, I look forward to activities such as:

  • a tea route exploration
  • coastal fishing and BBQ (I’m not saying I’m going to catch any)
  • cooking class with a local chef

My collaboration with the #MyMauritius campaign

This is the first sponsored trip I have accepted. Considering the scope of work required by our hosts, the MTPA and Air Mauritius, I consider the trip a work assignment and I have been contemplating how I’d communicate that, considering my strong stance about independent travel to date. I suppose if the travel publications are not paying to send you on an assignment to feature the destination, but the destination is very keen too, it is an option with merit to consider. As with everything on Food and the Fabulous, I assure you of strict editorial independence and no one will dictate who and what I feature.

I’ve extended the trip beyond the campaign for a few days to cover my own little list of must-see, eat and experience items. Jelle, travel buddy, bag carrier, and general good sport , who has visited Mauritius before, will accompany me on the #myMauritius trip at his own cost. I’ll tell you more about my own post-trip plans in another segment.

Oh, and do follow the #MyMauritius tag and send me your best (food/culture/art/history) tips. Also, catch all the bloggers’ stories here: http://storify.com/mymauritius

Thank you to iAmbassador and our hosts for this opportunity!

Sounds amazing! I’m really looking forward to read about Indian influences on the island 🙂
