Hello all!
I trust you’re excited about this New Year and from the tweets and blog posts I’ve read, I gather most of us are back in the swing of things and grinding away. I sincerely hope that this is going to be an awesome year for all of us…and for the parts that aren’t so cherry-filled, that we face it with courage and fortitude.
Foodandthefabulous has recently turned 4 whole months! I’m thrilled with the the new-look, launched 24 December 2010, and for that I have Tenacity Works to thank- they inserted my Julia Child dreams into their think tank and pulled this out! Do give them a shout out.
My year that was
I had a fantastic 2010. Some of my highlights include: joining help2read’s fund raising committee (if you’re in Cape Town this September/October I hope you’ll be joining us at our annual fund raising dinner), visiting New York*, Ireland, Livingston (I cooked crocodile curry with the Chef- do check it out) and Victoria Falls* for the first time, contributing towards a vegetable garden in small village in Livingston and ending the year at a gourmet hideaway * in the Natal Midlands, and finishing off with Mother’s home-style food over the New Year.
A lot of delicious food was devoured this year!
*food experience posts still to follow
This baby blog, sharing my recipes and dining experiences as well as connecting with many (and actually meeting some) of you fantastic foodbloggers, chefs, cooks and Twits has also made the list. Thank you for your conversation, sharing ideas and all the support! I really appreciate it.
Over to you
To thank you for your participation in my mini blog life, I present you with a delightful Crabtree & Evelyn set containing their afternoon tea (which my folks love!), traditional shortbread, white chocolate and raspberry biscuits and their organic strawberry preserve, presented in a gorgeous fruit and herb inspired tin.
Your mornings and afternoons just got more delicious!
This what you need to do:
1. Post a comment about why you should win and mention one of your favourite foods.
2. Make sure you leave your name/twitter handle if applicable
3. Giveaway closes midnight, 28 January
4. Open to all- conditions apply.
Good luck!

Delivery
If you live in Cape Town, I will arrange for you to pick the box up or we can meet at a spot convenient to both of us.
If you live elsewhere in the country, I will post it via normal delivery at my cost. Should you want special delivery, this will be at your cost.
If you live outside the country, the same as above will apply.
Post Script
It was brought to my attention that 2010 was the year of the Football World Cup (and I did attend many matches- 8 in total I think), as well as my brother and only sibling’s wedding. I figure these two events cancelled each other out because they were in the same month and both were big, bright and made my heart swell with pride.
I sincerely hope I’m out of the dog box now 😉
While I plan the rest of the year I need something to calm my nerves. Nerves from starting a new career, nerves from planning a new family. Some warm tea to sooth those nerves will be very much needed. A small break from my studies, I need to plan a trip up the West Coast but it’s no use on an empty stomach, some toast with Jam should fill the hole until lunch. Break, then lunch, lunch over and back to work but something sweet and and smooth is needed to convince my brain that it needs to work not rest, ah a white chocolate and raspberry cookie does the job. Then all is complete, the perfect 1 day tour to Port Owen and back, relaxing in the lounge with a good book, trying not to get the shortbread crumbs in the margin
@LadyRaven
I should win because I’m the first commenter. 😉 And because I have an unsatiable sweet tooth.

Oh wait, forgot my favourite food – that’ll have to be brownies, hands down. Or anything else chocolate-y and sinful.
Nice giveaway.
I should win because I LOVE everything in that box…. One of my favourite foods right now is sushi and roast lamb with mash potatoes (but not together of course) 😉
twitter: @beingbrazen
I should win because: I want it more than Marisa. Booyah!
@mingrhames
I should win because I love Barça as much as I love good food and good tea (and as a reward for translating Piqué’s tweets, yes?)! 😉
One of my favourite foods is my dad’s white rice… sounds simple, but it is incredibly delicious!
(@dfotw at Twitter)
One of my favourite things are tea smoked beef fillet tails with a horse radish chantilly followed by a strawberry and white chocolate mille fuillie (sp?)
Which I could make with all of those things in the box
Other than that I always thought that this company was called crab tree and 11 eleven and I walked past the shop all the time in london and thought what a silly name for a shop so I never went in and bought anything so nows my chance
thanks xx
Conditions apply? You’re such a lawyer 🙂
Ishay, it has been great getting to know you over the past few months, through Twitter, your blog and in real life.
Our ‘baby’ blogs started at around the same time and I think we have both grown from strength to strength.
I can’t honestly say I deserve it more than anyone else here, it would help calm the frazzled nerves that come with child rearing, plus I’m also the only guy to have responded thus far, so I win the sympathy vote.
Favourite food right now has to be Jamie’s Thai flavoured chicken salad, it is killing me with how quick it is to prepare and how great it tastes.
All the best for 2011!
Ciao
Matt
@imnojamieoliver
Scatch that, Neill got here first, darn chefs, always coming out of the kitchen when you lest expect it!
damn with all the creativeness I forgot my favourite food. Hands Down sushi!
I probably shouldn’t win because I have got to cut down on the biscuits, but I’d like to anyway. 🙂
And I think you should considermaking an european version in may 😉
Congratulations on fabulous blog & waiting for more (especially midnight snacks)
Lots of love from PL!
@gatadreams
OOh that looks lovely. I should win because being pregnant with no3 a mom needs a little spoiling when she gets the chance to have a cup of tea. Even if it is unlikely to be in the afternoon and rather at night when she collapses in an exhausted heap. This would so perk me up.
One favourite food: gosh that is hard! I love food, a good Thai green curry is right up there though.

What a fantastic give away c and e is my absolute favorite. Ithink my favorite thing to eat at the moment are definately litchies coupled with a warm sunny day on the beach in durbs with my mates I tell you it is hard to beat. I think I deserve to win this box of goodies because tea is said to cool you down and at the rate duran summer is going I’m going to need all the scrummy teas I can get thanks for organising such a great give away x durbancentral
Oh please can I win this, sharing an office with up to five noisy men is taking its toll on me. I think a girly afternoon cup of tea with a biscuit or jammy slice of toast would really help me get through the day.
Favourite food… such a hard one… my craving of the moment is for a bowl of chilled cucumber soup… but could be something different in the next five minutes.

I just started working at a very well known Hotel’s pastry kitchen in the Waterfront. Being a trainee chef really has its perks, i get to see a lot, learn a lot and work A LOT! I see delectable high tea goodies everyday, but i’ve never had the priviledge of actually tasting any of these things myself. Winning this prize would mean that I’d finally get the chance to put up my feet up and enjoy a high tea meant for a chef 🙂 thanks!
and a favourite food? choux pastry with caramel creme pate! To die for!
I should win this becuase I’m starting a new job next week and need this to de-stress myself 😉
Last night we had roast pork chops in a mustard sauce. It was DIVINE and is number one on my list of yumminess at the moment.
I should win because I’m currently studying for the Bar Exam and I need treats to take the nervous edge off. One of my favorite foods is strawberries.
With a husband and two big sons, there is never anything special for me in my house. I love crabtree and Evelyn but never treat myself. Would love the gift. My favorite food is rather simple. Peanut butter on whole wheat toast with a cup of coffee.
everyone has such a good reason to win! I have no reason really, just that I need a positive aspect to my year which though only 15 days new, did not start so well.
My favourite food – something I could not live without – would have to be chocolate.
Have a super day
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I should win because I love Crabtree & Evelyn more than you!
Ok, so I’m not exactly poetic but I have just received some really bad news and am a little shaken. I’d love to win to be able to be cheered up!
My favourite food right now (it changes regularly) is the Steak Tartare with micro greens, truffle oil, red onion, beetroot puree and quail’s egg from Bistro 1682.
Oh, and my Twitter name is The Squashed Tomato
Crabtree & Evelyn giveaway. Heart heart heart!
I love Crabtree & Evelyn so much that I will pay a visit at the shop when I went shopping! I just recently splurged myself with their goodies at their 50% sales! Food is MY LIFE! My favourite is sushi, dim sum, sticky ribs, macaroons…too many options!
twitter: @jasapple
There is no should win because i am not that arrogant 🙂 Just a really would like to as it cheers me up in the dark months in the Netherlands.
My favorite food, besides Japanese food, is the Chicken pie for the hurried cook as I really like chicken breast and I never have the time to cook so this is a great combination to serve both!
Tx for all the recipes as well as the reading fun. Please continue!
urm.. I would love to win, because I think after our kitchen renovation, my MIL will need some pampering, and I’m too poor (reno’s are expensive!) My favourite food? Anything that was a challenge for me to make, or an incredible taste sensation. So risotto for the former (it was a personal challenge), and, well, most starred restaurants for the latter (taste sensations).
By the way, I love the blog look, it suits you down to the ground, my dear! Take care and keep it up!
tis my birthday and i neeed pampering me me me x
I’d love to win because this year has started off so stressful at work. Monday is my birthday and instead of doing something fun I’m just hoping that I don’t have to work a 12 hour day. I love spicy food and especially Asian cuisine!
I think it would be nice to win since I love tea and it is hard for us international folks on the net to win tea and food items . So that is my honest answer and i am a tea lover !
I love french fries , cous cous , mostly all multi cultural dishes … with some exceptions

thanks
Selfless one here, I have to win this box for my mommy, I only see her about twice a year when I go home and she’s always helped with sponsoring my plane tickets back to JHB! This time, I’d like to give her something really special and when I saw this box, I knew it was hers!
I can just imagine her taking her afternoon tea while reading her favourite Catherine Cookson novel, with her new puppy lazing at her feet, just like the lady she is.
Oh and she’s just started using Facebook and reading blogs, so I’m sending her your link.
:o)

@Merlot_girl
Oh and my favourite food – vegetable breyani! 😉
I had a really bad day and had to leave work early, so feeling sorry for myself and need something to cheer me up.
@fionaby
Winning this special gift – I would treat my Great-Great Grandma to an afternoon tea with biscuits, she would absolutely LOVE it. My
favourate food is absolutely breyani.
When you’re feeling sad & blue
And have no clue what to do
Sit down and have a cup of tea
And a hug or biscuit or maybe three
Feel those troubles melt away
And start you on a better day.
I should win because I throw tea parties on a regular basis and can share this deliciousness with all of my friends! It will be something special and different for all my lovelies!
My favourite food? I am an absolute sucker for carrot cake. Yes, it has some form of a vegetable in it so it is 100% fine to enjoy it as a meal! 😉
And I’m blonde: Twitter handle = @littlecreach
I should win because I am a tea lover on a small budget which means I never get to experience gourmet tea! This beautiful box would be SUCH a treat for me. I’d have a reason to throw a fancy tea party!
One of my favourite foods would have to be granola! It tastes so delicious and can be thrown into many snacks, desserts, or is fabulous on its own!
I would love to give this to my hubby. He’s recently resigned from his executive job and wants to follow his passion for cooking.. It makes a much nicer gift than the laptop bags he used to get b4 this 😉
Our favourite food is definitely Roast Lamb with Rosemary and Red Wine sauce..
